Hetzner Online is a German cloud infrastructure and hosting provider founded in 1997 and headquartered in Gunzenhausen, Bavaria. One of Europe’s largest data center operators, Hetzner manages hundreds of thousands of servers across facilities in Germany (Nuremberg, Falkenstein), Finland (Helsinki), the United States (Ashburn, Virginia and Hillsboro, Oregon), and Singapore. Hetzner owns and operates its own data centers, which is central to its ability to offer pricing far below hyperscale cloud providers.
The platform offers Cloud Servers (VPS), Dedicated Servers, Storage Boxes, and managed object storage. Cloud Server pricing begins at €3.49/month for the CX23 entry-level instance in Germany and Finland following the April 2026 price increase. All cloud servers use hourly billing with monthly price caps, so you never pay more than the monthly rate regardless of usage pattern. European plans include 20TB of outbound traffic per month at no additional cost — a major differentiator versus AWS, GCP, and Azure where egress fees compound significantly at scale.
On April 1, 2026, Hetzner implemented a significant price increase across its entire product portfolio — the first major adjustment in years. Cloud server prices increased approximately 30–35% depending on the model and region, citing rising infrastructure operating costs and hardware procurement expenses. The changes applied to both new orders and existing products.
Despite the increase, Hetzner remains among the most cost-effective cloud providers available. Independent benchmarks consistently show strong CPU performance, low-latency European networking, and NVMe RAID10 storage at prices 10–12 times lower than AWS for equivalent configurations.
Hetzner has no managed Kubernetes, managed databases, or serverless offerings. It also provides no formal uptime SLA. Hetzner is best suited to cost-sensitive developers, European businesses requiring EU data residency, and teams with DevOps capability who do not need managed services.
